How Traction Elevators Work

A traction elevator operates through a system of steel wire ropes or flat belts that pass over a traction sheave connected to an electric motor. One end of the ropes is attached to the elevator cabin, while the other end is connected to a counterweight.

When a passenger selects a destination floor, the microprocessor-based control system activates the electric motor. The motor rotates the traction sheave, causing the ropes to move and lift or lower the elevator car. The counterweight balances the load, reducing the effort required from the motor and significantly improving energy efficiency.

Advanced Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) drives precisely control the motor speed, ensuring smooth acceleration, quiet operation, accurate floor leveling, and comfortable passenger travel.
